Sally
Houtman, who herself was raised by grandparents, possesses bachelor
degrees in English and Psychology and a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation
Counseling from Boston University. For the past 8 years, she has
served as a counselor in outpatient chemical dependency treatment
at Kaiser Permanente, the nation's leading HMO. There, she has been
exposed to a growing number of families in which children find themselves
in a grandparent's care. This has increased her sensitivity to the
impact this arrangement has on all members of a family.
